McDonald's Named One of World's Most Ethical Companies

July 08, 2008

McDonald's has been named one of the world's most ethical companies by Ethisphere magazine. This honor recognizes a select group of companies that are at the top of their industries for ethical leadership.

The selection was made on the basis of reviews of thousands of companies worldwide. Winners were those with top scores on an ethics quotient, comprising separate scores on seven dimensions:

  • Corporate citizenship and responsibility
  • Corporate governance
  • Innovation that contributes to the public well-being
  • Industry leadership
  • Executive leadership and tone from the top
  • Legal, regulatory and reputation track record
  • Internal systems and ethics/compliance program

McDonald's has also been awarded the Ethisphere Institute's Ethics Inside Certified seal. This signifies that our ethics and compliance program and practices have been independently verified by Ethisphere Council analysts. To receive the seal, a company must demonstrate that it has a superior employee and leadership culture which promotes ethical business practices and systems and programs in place to reasonably prevent compliance failures.

McDonald's has a long-standing commitment to ethical business practices, dating back to our founder Ray Kroc, who said, "The basis for our entire business is that we are ethical, truthful and dependable." Now as then, we hold ourselves and conduct our business according to the highest possible standards of fairness, honesty, and integrity. We are accountable individually and collectively responsible for doing what's right.
